Aromatic Chicken From The Air Fryer - From Dora's Kitchen

My husband Peter is the biggest chicken breast lover that I know. He eats chicken breast for breakfast, chicken breast for lunch, chicken breast for dinner. All the time chicken breast is on his menu.

His love for chicken breast inspired me to create this recipe. We got an air fryer, and one day I decided to bake chicken breast in the air fryer. When I served the chicken breast baked in the air fryer, Peter got so amazed by the flavor, and he said that chicken breast baked in the air fryer is better than chicken breast baked in the oven. Since that day, we have been experimenting with different marinades, and the marinade in this recipe has become our favorite, and we love it.

At least once a week, we are making chicken breast in the air fryer. I hope that you will like this recipe. Ingredients for chicken breast from the air fryer

Boneless and skinless chicken breast is the best choice when you are in a rush because they cook faster. Also, they are easy to make, and everyone can make it, no matter how skillful they are.

Skinless chicken breast is perfect for soaking in the marinade. Because they do not have skin, the marinade can penetrate easier and more evenly in the chicken breast.

The best marinade for chicken breast from the air fryer

A marinade is everything when it comes to skinless chicken breasts.

2 reasons for using marinade on the skinless chicken breast:

  1. The chicken breast will get evenly the flavor from the marinade
  2. The chicken breast will not be dry, but extremely juicy and yummy to eat.

After lots of experimenting with the marinades which are free from onion, free from garlic, and free from other alliums, I came to the conclusion that this blend of herbs and spices is the best.

For my most aromatic chicken marinade recipe, I used:
Ground rosemary, dry thyme, dry oregano, ground basil, and dry marjoram.
For spices, I’m using salt and black pepper.

I used olive oil to connect the herbs and spices. Olive oil will add juiciness to the chicken breast, and the chicken will not be dry.

How to make the chicken breast from the air fryer

Preparing the chicken breast and the marinade

When making boneless and skinless chicken breast, always the first step is making the marinade.

Mix in a small bowl olive oil, ground rosemary, dry thyme, dry oregano, ground basil, dry marjoram, salt, and pepper.
In case your boneless and skinless chicken breasts are not the same size, cut them to have the same size, but do not cut them into small pieces. They should be at least half of your palm.

Cut partially chicken breast. I do 1 vertical cut and a few horizontal cuts. Be careful not to cut the chicken breast completely. This is for the marinade to better penetrate chicken breast.

Massage marinade evenly into the chicken breast. Let it rest on the countertop for 30 minutes. In case you are in a rush, you can start baking chicken immediately, it will still be tasty!

Chicken breast can be marinated the night before. Massage the chicken breast with marinade, and store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Remove the chicken breast from the refrigerator at least 30 minutes before you want to bake them so that they can warm up to room temperature and be juicier.

Baking the chicken breast in the air fryer

After the chicken breast has been rested, place it into the air fryer basket. Bake it at 350F for 15 minutes.

When 15 minutes pass, flip the chicken, and bake it for another 10 to 15 minutes (depending on the chicken breast size). Chicken should have a nice light brown color on both sides.

Let it rest for 5 to 10 minutes. Do not cut the chicken while it is resting because all the juices will be gone from the chicken. During resting time, the chicken is absorbing its juices.

Serve the chicken breasts with the side.

How to store baked chicken breast

You can store baked chicken in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to 4 days.

You can use this recipe as a meal prep for boneless and skinless chicken breast. Chicken breast baked like this can be used in a chicken sandwich, mixed with some sauce, or used as a protein in a salad meal.

I do not recommend freezing baked chicken.

How to make chicken in air fryer video

Tips and tricks

  • Let chicken rest in the marinade for at least 30 minutes, and up to 45 minutes (depending on how the room is). This way chicken will be juicier because it will not be that shocked when you start baking it. Room-temperature chicken breasts are juicier than chicken breasts that are directly baked from the refrigerator.
  • For the first 15 minutes do not open the air fryer, let the chicken bake.
  • Monitor the chicken after you flip it, and if it has a nice light brown color, remove the chicken. Smaller pieces need less time.
  • Do not overfill the air fryer basket because the chicken breast will not be baked correctly.

How to know if the chicken breast from the air fryer is done?

  • Chicken has a nice light brown color on both sides, and the temperature in the thickest part of chicken breast is 165F.

Chicken breast from the air fryer: what can go wrong, and how to fix it:

  • The chicken breast looks a bit pink
    Bake it more, the chicken is still raw
  • The air fryer basket is too full
    Remove the part of the chicken breast, and bake it in 2 separate batches.
  • Chicken breasts are getting dark brown color
    You overbaked a bit chicken breast. Remove the chicken breast from the air fryer basket, and bake shorter the next round.

How to store the chicken breast from the air fryer?

You can marinate the chicken overnight. Place the marinated chicken in an airtight container, and put it in the fridge. When you want to bake it, remove it from the fridge, and place it on the kitchen counter. Let it rest on the counter for 30 minutes, so it can be at room temperature. This way the chicken will be juicier.

Refrigerator 

You can store air-fryer chicken in an air-tight container for up to 4 days.

 

Freezer

You can freeze air-fryer chicken in an air-tight container for up to 3 months.

 

Garnish for this meal
Garnish can elevate how the food looks, and it can make it look more appetizing. However, garnish can be a spot where alliums are hiding.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 lb boneless and skinless chicken breast 1kg
  • 5 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon ground rosemary
  • 1 teaspoon dry thyme
  • 1 teaspoon dry oregano
  • 1 teaspoon ground basil
  • 1 teaspoon dry marjoram
  • 2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions
 

  • In a small bowl mix oil with ground rosemary, thyme, oregano, ground basil, marjoram, salt, and pepper. This is the marinade for chicken.
  • Cut partially chicken breast. I do 1 vertical cut and a few horizontal cuts. Be careful not to cut completely the chicken breast.
  • In a container place chicken, and then massage marinade into it. Let it rest for 30 minutes on the counter.
  • Place a few pieces in the air fryer. Do not overload the basket.
  • Bake chicken for 15 minutes at 350℉/ 180℃.
  • Flip the chicken, and bake it for about 10 minutes or longer (depending on the size of the chicken breast).
